At Levens CE School we are determined to meet the individual needs of all our pupils. Pupils with special educational needs and disability (SEND) are encouraged to become increasingly independent and take responsibility within the school.
The school manages to meet the needs of children who may be experiencing difficulty with learning, or who have a disability, according to the current requirements as set out in the Code of Practice. (Please also see our SEND Policy and Information Report)
Children experiencing difficulty at any time or in any area of school life are quickly identified and given appropriate input and support. The class teacher is able to draw on the advice and experience of colleagues, particularly the school’s Special Needs Co-ordinator, and external agencies if necessary. Each child with special educational needs has a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP), which is created in consultation with the child and their parents and reviewed regularly. All teachers plan, set and mark work appropriate and relevant to the individual needs of their pupils, taking into account any requirements set out in the PLP.
Our school has an exceptionally strong and experienced staff and a range of resources and intervention strategies to support our children with their individual needs. In addition, some of our specialist staff have further qualifications in screening, supporting reading, maths intervention and Dyslexia. We have also established very strong links with professionals outside school, including educational psychologists, speech and language teachers and occupational therapy.
