Curriculum Overview:
Maths: This term we shall be covering 4 units. They are place value, addition and subtraction, area
and multiplication and division.
English: This term we will be completing a range of fiction and non-fiction writing including letters,
character descriptions, poetry, information texts based on the following books How to Wash a Woolly
Mammoth, Ug:Boy Genius of the Stone Age, Stone Age Boy, The First Drawings and The Tooth Book
Science: We cover all about animals including humans this term. This includes nutrition, skeletons,
muscles, digestive system and teeth.
Topic: Changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. The children will also be visiting
Castlerigg Stone Age Circle and Keswick Museum on Monday 19th October.
SCARF: SCARF stands for the values we uphold in school - Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience
and Friendship. In explicit teaching sessions we will cover topics under the themes of ‘Me and my
relationships’ and ‘Rights and responsibilities’.
PE: This half term we will be looking at Invasion games and skills as well as dance and gymnastics.
Computing: We will be looking at connecting computers and the internet. We will explore how digital
devices work and how they help us, how information is shared on the internet and if it is real or not.
RE: Our Christian Value for this term is service. Our topics in the autumn term are Called By God and
Light. We will discuss what is means to be called by God and why Jesus is described as the light of the
world.
D&T: Our first D and T topic will be food: eating seasonally. This will take place in Autumn 2. More
information will follow closer to the time.
Art: Art will focus on two topics this term, both of these link perfectly with our history unit. We will be
exploring Early-man cave paintings and creating drawings and painting of stone circles based on
Castlerigg and Stonehenge.
French: We will be learning parts of the body and speaking in a café. The children will be able to
name some parts of the body, state colours, simple plural forms, order food and discuss prices.
