Class Three – Years 3 & 4


This is Class 3 where our Year 3 and 4 pupils are taught by Ms Chapman and are supported by Mrs Mason, Mrs Court and Mrs Matheson,

What are we going to be learning this term?

Curriculum Overview:

 

Maths: We start the year by looking at place value, following this we will look at addition and subtraction including written methods. We will then move on to looking at multiplication and division and finish the term by looking at area.

English: This term we will look at poems by the author Allan Ahlberg, performing these and writing our own versions. We will produce non-fiction reports about Roman soldiers and also look at diary writing.

Science: We cover two different science topics this term. We begin the term by light, this will include shadows, reflections and safety in the sun and will include lots of experiments. After half term, we will move onto sound and look at sound waves, pitch and volume.

Topic: The Romans will be out focus for this term and will include a trip to Vindolanda and The Roman Army Museum (more details to follow.) We will examine the Roman Empire and what the impact of the Romans was on Britain.

SCARF: SCARF stands for the values we uphold in school - Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship. In explicit teaching sessions we will cover topics under the themes of ‘Me and my relationships’ and ‘Rights and responsibilities’.

PE: This half term Year Four will be looking at confidence in the water and water safety along with learning and developing different swimming strokes. Year Three will be learning some team games. and rugby will be taught to the whole class.

Computing: We will be looking at audio editing and recording sound in the first half term, which enhances our science topic. After half term we will be learning about data logging, collecting data and recording it.

RE: Our Christian Value for this term is peace. Our topics in the autumn term are Harvest, examining how different faiths celebrate harvest. Following this we will look at Christmas, in particular how the presence of Jesus impacts on people’s lives.

D&T: Our first Dand T topic will be pavilions. Later on in the term we will work on adapting recipes and working to budgets.

Art: Art this term we will be making clay relief tiles and creating our own block prints as well as looking at expressive mark making and the work of Vincent Van Gogh.

French: We will be learning basic conversational French and learning numbers to 20 and the names of some classroom objects.
