Skiddaw

Special Insect Visitors!

Today, two special stick insects came to visit in Skiddaw class. They are called Spider Woman and Greedy and we learnt some interesting facts about them.

Did you know that stick insects eat bramble?

Did you know that all insects have six legs?

We are creating fact posters to display around school this week – keep an eye out for them!

Harvest Drawings

We have been learning off by heart a poem by Paul Cookson called Thank you for the Harvest. You might like to ask a member of Skiddaw class to recite it to you!

It mentions lots of wonderful fruit and vegetables so we decided to make some careful observational drawings. First we experimented with pencil and black pen, then we tried out the chalk pastels.

We really enjoyed looking at all the details and adding these to our drawings. Take a look at a selection of our work here, they’ll be more on display in our classroom.

Creations inspired by the Olympic Rings

In Skiddaw, we are starting our Ancient Greeks topic by looking at the Olympic Games. We have spent the afternoon creating art inspired by the Olympic Rings. We made lots of decisions as we experimented with printing, drawing, model making and using compasses to draw circles. These are some of our creations.

Marvellous Maths

Our new Year 2 children have been settling in really well. Here are some of them, working on counting and using special counting blocks to represent tens and units numbers.

Jonah – A Fishy Tale

We finished our summer term in style with a junior performance of Jonah – A Fishy Tale. Acting and singing with gusto, telling the tale of Jonah and the Whale. Thanks to Aggie for the photos.

Sports Day

The sun shone for this years sports day. We did a circus of team activities followed by some flat races. It was a hard fought competition but this years winners were Yellow Team.

A walk up Loughrigg

Skiddaw Class enjoyed a sunny walk up Loughrigg. It was part of our summer term outdoor education programme organised through Dallam Outdoors.

Canoeing on Coniston

We had a lovely sunny day canoeing on Coniston Water. Dallam Outdoor took us out on the water. We paddled over to Wild Cat Island, of Swallows and Amazons fame, had our lunch and the paddled back. There was just time for a quick splash about in the very cold lake!
