As part of our learning about God this term, Scafell Class visited St. John’s Church. The pupils have been learning about the word’s that Christians use to describe God: omniscient, omnipotent, holy, eternal, spirit, loving and omnipresent. On our visit, we were particularly looking at what the artefacts, symbols and furniture in Church tell us about God.
Our work this term continues with looking at other Christian churches and making comparisons.
Congratulations to everyone in Bowfell who recited the whole of Dear Zoo complete with actions and facial expressions! No evidence of any nerves in their first live performance for the rest of the school.
All our new Nursery and Reception children are settling well into the routines of our dining hall and enjoy a healthy nutritious lunch with all their friends every day.
Take a look at our amazing shoe-box creations! Our summer challenge was to create a setting from a favourite book to display at the Learning for Life Tent at the Westmorland County Show….
Creations included the wardrobe from Narnia; plus scenes from The Gruffalo’s Child, The Midnight Gang, Fing, The BFG, The Scarecrow’s Wedding and The Tiger who Came for Tea. Well done everyone – they are all amazing!
Following a lovely morning bouncing at Brockhole, all our year six leavers were treated to a special dinner prepared by Mrs Mason and Tea Club. We enjoyed fruit punch, crudites, pizza, strawberry sundaes, coffee and after dinner mint chocolates – simply delicious.
Year five did an incredible job with scrumptious food, attentive service and a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Definitely a five-star rating on TripAdvisor!! Thank you to FOLS for funding these wonderful celebratory treats for our year six leavers each year.
Reception and Year 1 have been very busy creating accommodation for all our mini-beasts living in our outdoor area. 
Reception and Year One had a brilliant time on the Tree Top Nets at Brockhole on Thursday. They enjoyed climbing, bouncing, crawling through tunnels, whizzing down slides and playing football in the trees to name just a few things! After 2 hours of non-stop activity the sun made its appearance for lunchtime which was enjoyed beside the lake. There was just enough time for some forest school games in the woods and an explore in the playground before home time.
All our year 5 & 6 pupils enjoyed an amazing time with Waterwise this week; learning how to keep themselves safe in and around water. After a discussion about identifying hazards when openwater swimming; we were soon in the water playing games, including rescuing ducks!

After we dried off, we enjoyed a lovely picnic and explored Fell Foot Park!
It was lovely to see so many little ones (and their grown ups too!) enjoying our final Toddler Taster session of the academic year this morning. The drizzle and clouds didn’t spoil our Summer Fun themed morning where children enjoyed games of hook a duck, blowing bubbles, painting rainbow bread, making sand dough pictures and playing in our sensory ice cream tuff tray – just to name a few of the activities we had on offer.
Scafell have been exploring the subject of climate change and the impact of human activity on the planet. As part of the United Nations World Environment Day on June 5th, children in years 5+6 took the mask challenge – this was a social media campaign to design and make creative masks related to this year’s theme on air pollution and make a pledge to change one aspect of your life to help reduce our carbon footprint.
Here are some of our fabulous creations and promises to change.
We have also created amazing speeches inspired by Greta Thunberg, the 15year old Swedish activist; wrote persuasive poems encouraging people to do more to protect our planet; led assemblies to raise awareness with the rest of the school and our parents; and considered what more we could do as a school to be more environmentally friendly.
One change we will be making soon is reducing the amount of plastic use in our school by changing how our system for supplying milk for our infant children.
