The Great Fire Of London workshop

Class 2 had a brilliant morning learning about The Great Fire of London. We began by warming up and finding something hard, something smooth and something living. After this, we heard all about how the fire started and why it spread so easily. We discovered the walls were made from wattle and daub and this led into our next task. The children made their own wattle and daub walls in teams, this involved some weaving and some very messy hands! We then had a game of fire tig to make sure we were all nice and warm. The children had to be firefighters and put the fires out. We discussed the problems with firefighting in 1666. To conclude the session, we were given the task of designing a new bakery and home for Thomas Farriner. This had to be sturdy and waterproof! The children had a fantastic time and learnt lots of new facts.
