Class Two

Brathay 2026

Class One and Two had a fabulous time at Brathay this week! The children took part in a range of exciting activities, including canoeing, climbing walls and poles, woodland adventures, and bushcraft. They showed great determination, teamwork, and resilience as they tackled new challenges. Despite the wet weather, everyone had lots of fun and made many wonderful memories.

Happy Birthday David Attenborough!

Last week, we celebrated the birthday of David Attenborough by creating informative posters all about his life and work. We learned about how he helps people understand the importance of looking after our planet and protecting wildlife.

The posters were a fantastic way to begin our new environment topic in school over the next couple of weeks. We enjoyed researching facts, designing eye-catching layouts and sharing ideas about how we can help care for the Earth.

Class 2’s pouches.

Class 2 have made their very own pouches! This fit in perfectly with our money work in maths. First, we practised our sewing skills by learning how to do a running stitch. Then we carefully cut our fabric and sewed the pieces together to create our pouch shapes.

Class 2 Woodland Trip Spring.

Class 2 had a fantastic adventure in the woods, where creativity was in full swing! The children were challenged to transform an ordinary stick into something completely different using their imaginations. From magical wands to brave swords and even very large sea creatures, the ideas were endless. We then added extra accessories to bring our creations to life before sharing them with each other. Can you guess what our sticks turned into?

Brewery Dance Platform

A huge well done to all of our Y2/3/4 pupils who performed their dance ‘The Epic Adventure’ on stage at the Brewery Arts annual dance platform event on Tuesday. The children have been working so hard on their performance and have been participating in Miss Heaton’s weekly dance club, supported by Ashleigh from the Brewery Arts dance team. The children thoroughly enjoyed their time on the stage and are already looking forward to taking part next year!

Beatrix Potter

Class 2 had a fabulous time learning all about Beatrix Potter and the different animals that she used when writing her books. We then continued our day at Brockholes where we played games, did a Beatrix Potter hunt, had dinner and played on the park.

Science Investigations!

To start the year, Class 2 have been learning all about different materials in science. We have been exploring what objects are made from and thinking carefully about their properties.

Over the past two weeks, we have begun investigating the different properties of materials. Last week, we carried out an exciting experiment to find out which objects would sink and which would float!

Before testing each object, we made predictions and discussed our ideas. We talked about whether the material it was made from might affect what happened in the water. The children were fantastic at explaining their thinking and using scientific vocabulary.

Pencil pots

Class 2 have been creating their very own pencil pots in DT this half term! The children explored structures and learned what makes them stable. We discussed the meaning of the word stable and investigated how shapes and bases help structures stay upright. The children then designed their own pencil pots, thinking carefully about how to make them strong and balanced, and experimented with wider bases to improve stability. It was wonderful to see them using their creativity alongside problem-solving and design skills. Here are some pictures of the process below.

Class 2 art

Class 2 have been very busy using watercolours to draw buildings around our local area. We have observed shapes, lines and details carefully. Thank you to Sophie Martin who came and shared her expertise and her own artistic skills, the children loved seeing different pieces of artwork and mixing their own colours.

A Midwife Crisis!

This week, Class 1 and Class 2 took to the stage to perform their nativity, A Midwife Crisis — and they were absolutely brilliant!

The children sang, acted, and narrated with such confidence and enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see all their hard work come together, and they truly brought the story to life.

A huge thank you to all the parents and carers for coming along to support the performance, for providing such fantastic costumes, and for helping the children learn their lines at home. Your support makes such a difference, and we really appreciate it.
