Christmas Card Competition – Tim Farron

This week, the children were able to shake hands with our Local MP- Tim Farron, Mr Farron came into school on Thursday to personally thank all of our children for their amazing Christmas Card design competition entries. However, one child in particular received an extra special thank you,

Matthew (Year 5) won 1st Prize in Tim Farron’s Christmas Card Competition. He was chosen from hundreds of students from across South Lakeland who submitted a design. Matthew’s winning design has been reproduced over 40,000 times, and is being delivered to every household in the constituency. See the article here:

Tim states that the ‘competition gets harder and harder to judge each year as the standard of entries just keeps going up, but Matthew’s design really stood out’.

‘He did a brilliant job and I am delighted that his work will now be seen and admired by thousands of South Lakes residents’.

Well done to everyone that entered the competition!

Delicious Christmas Dinner

Sharing Christmas dinner with all your classmates is an important part of a Levens Christmas experience and this year was delicious indeed. Here are few photos of Skiddaw class (Bowfell and Scafell loved it as much!) – notice the many clean plates and great fun we had with the crackers! Many thanks to Helen and Heather from Dallam and to our wonderful governors and staff who helped in the smooth service too, your support is very much appreciated.

Kindness Calendars

This week, Scafell class have mixed up tradition and created their own Kindness Calendars, The class have thought about, designed and created their lovely kindness calendars and written one kind action under each flap. Miss Dawson would love to know how the children got on making their Mum cups of tea, helping to wash up and walking the dog! 🙂 Enjoy the Holidays everyone!

Tag Rugby

This term, the children have thoroughly enjoyed getting muddy playing Tag Rugby on the field. The enthusiasm and energy that they have shown throughout training has been amazing, and their skills have hugely improved over the term. Parents and staff have really enjoyed watching the team. Well done to a great coach and to a great team!

Gymnastics

This term, the children in Scafell have worked hard and enjoyed Gymnastics every Thursday; led by Mrs Craggs, They have been practising their cartwheels, handstands, jumps and balances and some children will be showing off their skills in a Gymnastics competition next year, The children cannot wait! Well done Scafell and Mrs Craggs.

It’s Amazing!!!

This week we welcomed our audiences of all ages to three performances of our wonderful nativity play.  Every child in school took part – from nursery all the way up to our year 6 pupils.  The singing was spectacular; there was award-winning acting; and the costumes were stunning!! Thanks to everyone involved in learning lines and making costumes.   It truly was AMAZING!

Singing for the Head Conference

In October we were invited to take part in a project to produce an inspiring piece of music to be performed at the Cumbria Primary Heads’ Conference. We were filmed signing and singing a specially adapted version of “You Raise Me Up” to be accompanied by a live soloist. Here is the finished film, get your tissues at the ready! (The musical intro has no images for the first 44s)

Advent Ring

Pam came into school on Wednesday carrying lots of boxes full of materials to make Advent Rings. Our ring has four candles, one for each of the four Sundays until Christmas. We will light them in school as we count down too.

The children also made Mrs Coker and Mrs Farraday special individual candles arrangements.

Thank you to Eco Team, School Council members and a few extra volunteers in Skiddaw class who worked with Pam and, of course, thanks to Pam for providing all the resources and giving her time.

Christmas Fair

Wow! What an amazing night at the school Christmas Fair on Friday the 24th November. Following a very busy week, staff, children, parents and governors all came together to enjoy games, cakes, hot dogs and freshly made soup, Christmas songs and a fantastic raffle! The atmosphere in school was wonderful and everyone felt full of Christmas spirit. Scafell class planned and created their own Christmas game stalls with one stall raising £34 alone! Skiddaw class made some delicious soup for all; and Santa even made an appearance in the Grotto. We were able to raise a hugely successful amount of money for school, which will be supporting the development of our outdoor area. Thank you to all for attending such a wonderful night, and to those who were able to provide food and gifts.

Kendal Mountain Festival

On Friday 17th November, Scafell went to the Mountain Festival at the Leisure Centre to celebrate our local area, amazing people and the beautiful world around us.

We met a scientist (Huw James) who showed us how avalanches work, and taught us about the right gear to wear when climbing Mount Everest. He also showed us how to survive in the cold, and how to get a drink from the river or dirty water. He used a special cup that separates the dirt and the bacteria to make edible and clear water.

Afterwards, we played a little game called ‘I’m a student get me out of here’ where some poor pupil and teacher victims had to eat disgusting bugs including; a grasshopper, a locust, a mealworm and a water-bug. We even got to meet Bruno the slithering Snake!

We also heard from the very famous Matt Dickinson about his amazing adventures. It inspired us all! We had an amazing time, and especially liked watching the paragliding film. Thank you to Miss Dawson, Mr Webb, Mr Stewart and Mr Pickles for taking us!
