A Musical Send Off

Last Friday we were sorry to be saying goodbye and thank you to Rev Ruth who has worked tirelessly to support our school and the wider community over the last ten years.

We held a special Good Work Assembly where every child contributed through poetry, music and painting creations.

Rev Ruth was presented with a book, made specially by Helen Golding Miller, which was full of messages and pictures from the children and staff. She was also presented with a framed stained glass window inspired picture.

Skiddaw class performed their musical composition and as this was one thing that couldn’t be put in the book, she asked us to record it and so here it is…

Fishy Art

In Science, we have been learning about the Eatwell plate and how it divides foods into different types that do different jobs in our bodies. We have been sorting foods and using it to design meals with a healthy balance of food types.

Fish come under the protein section. We have enjoyed looking carefully at fresh mackerel fish and have experimented with different media including pastels, pencils and black pen. The light on the silvery scales and the patterns were beautiful. We even had a look at the teeth – see us here at work!

Find a fraction!

We have been working hard on fractions in maths. Here are some of us building multi-link models showing a half and a quarter.

Here are a few of the sums others have written using fraction walls and = ,  + ,  – ,  <  or  > signs.

Skiddaw Science

It is only day two of the new term but we’re already getting into learning all about our digestive system in all its wonderful glory! Did you know that the small intestine is a tube about 6m long all coiled up inside you? Well we do now! Take a look at the grins on our faces as we got messy exploring the journey our food takes from beginning to end.

Games Day!

We have had a great day today playing new and old classic board games. There was lots of super turn taking, sharing and good sportsmanship on view as we enjoyed Monopoly, Dog Bingo, the Tumbling Monkey game, Connect 4, cards and chess. Which is your favourite Christmas game?

Our Nativity – Refuge

Our nativity this year has been inspired by a beautiful book called Refuge by Anne Booth and Sam Usher. Y2 really enjoyed reading it and have retold the story to create the script for our nativity play. Here are a few photos from our first night – thanks to Aggie Dobson for these beautiful shots.

We’re going to be on the radio!

On Wednesday 7th December, Yakkers recorded the whole school saying and singing our nativity play, Refuge. We are the chosen school for their 7.50am slot on Lakeland Radio every day next week. We hope you will be listening out for us – you’ll have to be up early!

Tag Rugby Tournament

In the lovely autumnal sunshine, Year 3 and 4 played great games of tag rugby against other local schools. All our recent training, drills and mini games paid off and we certainly improved during the afternoon. Great to have a few family members popping in to cheer us along too. We took two teams and came 3rd and 5th out of 13 teams and there were lots of smiles, cheers and good sportsmanship on show.
Thanks to Penny at Dallam for organising the whole event and to the subs for taking all these photos – some great action shots!
