White Scar Cave and Ingleton

Class Three had a fantastic day at White Scar Cave and the park at Ingleton. The children learnt all about limestone rock formations and fossils on the tour of the cave and really enjoyed looking at the stalagmites and stalactites. A picnic followed and then a play in the park at Ingleton.

Hot seating Zacchaeus

In R.E. this week we have been learning about change and how this is not always easy to see. We read the story of Zacchaeus in The Bible and identified changes in his behaviour and actions as a result of meeting Jesus. We then thought of questions to ask Zacchaeus and asked these during our hot seating activity.

Rounders in the sunshine

Class Three had a fantastic afternoon taking part in a rounders event with other local primary schools. The sun was shining for us and we enjoyed the opportunity to play rounders with a variety of teams. We all had great fun and learnt lots of new skills and tactics.

Water Way to Learn!

This week in Class 4, our young mathematicians have been busy exploring the fascinating world of capacity! The children have been learning how we measure liquids and have discovered some very handy facts along the way.

We learned that one litre of water is the exact amount that fits into a cube measuring 10cm by 10cm by 10cm. Even more interestingly, that litre of water weighs exactly one kilogram—making it easy to estimate weight and volume together!

Using this new knowledge, the children had a go at estimating the capacity of a variety of everyday containers—everything from water bottles to measuring jugs, and even lunchboxes! After making their predictions, they tested them by filling the containers with water (but not the lunchboxes!) and measuring the results.

There were plenty of thoughtful discussions as students compared their estimates with the real measurements. It was a fantastic hands-on way to develop their understanding of volume, estimation, and the metric system.

We’re so proud of how curious and enthusiastic Class 4 have been. Who knew that maths and science could be so refreshing?

Seasonal Tarts

Class Three have had an amazing day making their own savoury seasonal tart. We started the topic by looking at climate zones and where food is grown, we connected this to food miles and discussed how it is better to eat seasonally where possible. We then moved on to refining our peeling and chopping skills, learning how to safety use vegetable knives and peelers. Following this, we did some taste tests of seasonal foods and used this to design our own seasonal tarts. Our final results were amazing and the children were very eager to try them!
