Village Walk
Class 2 went on a walk around the village as part of their geography this term. We focused on looking for human and physical features, mapping skills and using a compass!

Class 4 were treated to a live-chat with a London-based designer who, since graduating from University, has set up his own successful company designing and making functional clothing and accessories for men and women. Max told us a little about his business and we looked at his website, before the children launched into a round of questions on a range of topics including advice for a young designer; the inspiration for his ideas; and how long his designs take to develop from conception to being on sale!
Before he left, he even gave the children some positive feedback on their own designs and creations; and gave some really good advice about choosing a career path that is something you enjoy and can be passionate about.
You can find out more about our designer by taking a look at his website here: Bryder Studios
Last week class 2 walked to the woods. We found lots of insects under our stools! We then created our own bonfires and sparklers recapping our learning all about Guy Fawkes.
We had the most incredible day last Friday raising money for Children in Need!
As part of their 25 anniversary, our pupils were encouraged to complete ’25 challenges’ of their own choosing! We had many different stories of determination, kindness and resilience including climbing, messages of kindness, balancing acts and running long distances in our local community.
During our morning assembly we spent some time learning about all the great things that Children in Need does to make a difference to children experiencing all kinds of different challenges in their lives. We spent some time reflecting on our own lived experience and appreciating all that makes us feel safe, loved and healthy.
After that, Mrs Farraday took on the ‘Strictly 25 Step Challenge’ Infront of the whole school. Although there were great cheers and applause at the end, no one was able to award a perfect score of 10! The children and staff, however, performed their collaborative dance of 25 steps with enthusiasm and flair, scoring a 10 from our strictly judge, Mrs Mason.
Thanks for all your support – final figure of amount raised will be announced very soon!
Here we are in our Pudsey-themed outfits of all varieties!
Class 4 worked hard just before half term to turn the classroom into a bag-making factory!
We started by taking a few different types of bags apart to see how they were made. We learned that they are actually quite simple – the simplest form of tote bag was just a folded rectangle of fabric with two handles!
We figured that if they were that simple, we could definitely make our own and maybe even improve on some of the designs! We thought about the different functions that our bags could serve (including shopping, trick-or-treating, storing bike parts or just as a fashion accessory!) and designed our own. We had to consider the size, shape, material and additions to our bag which would help it suit the purpose.
Designs complete, we produced some paper pattern-pieces. We could use these to mark up our fabric and ensure all parts were the right size and shape before cutting. We also had to make sure to leave enough room for the seam allowance so that our bags remained strong and our stitching did not slip out.
We used a simple running stitch to create our bags, making sure to sew them inside out (to hide the seams when done) and to leave the top open! Once this was complete, handles could be attached – definitely the hardest part of the project – and decorative items could be attached.
A selection of our creations can be seen below – what do you think?
Class Three have been really busy producing this amazing Roman homework. The children were set the challenge of researching a topic of their choice and produce a piece of work based on this. The work is absolutely fabulous and included replica Roman toilet, Roman cheese, mosaics and an amphitheatre. I am sure you will agree the children have excelled!
Just before half term class 2 designed and made their very own healthy wrap. We have learnt about the different food groups. Some of us were reluctant to try new foods but stepped outside of our comfort zone!
Class 3 had a wonderful day putting our classroom learning to good use. We visited the Roman Army Museum and tested our strength to see if we were strong enough to join the Syrian archers. We were very lucky and got to meet ‘Marcus the Medicus’. He told us lots of information on medicine and hygiene in Roman times and also provided our army equipment! We moved on to Vindolanda and had a fantastic afternoon exploring the sites and looking at the artefacts.
Key Stage Two had a marvellous Monday at Great Tower. Despite the drizzle, everyone enjoyed a range of activities. Crate stacking was a highlight, along with tree climbing and archery. The children all demonstrated resilience and empathy, encouraging each other and developing their team work skills. It was a fantastic chance to try new things and discover new talents.
Reception had the most wonderful of days yesterday on their first ever school trip to Woodmatters! They explored the woodland for autumn treasure, learnt how to use a steel and flint to make their own fires and cooked caramelised apples on the campfire. The afternoon was spent whittling willow to make into their own charcoal which was used for smudging leaf prints. They also learnt how to use a saw safely to make their own elder bead necklaces.
