Swimming lessons will begin in the Autumn Term at Kendal Leisure Centre.
The arrangements are as follows:
• All pupils in Years 4 and 5, together with selected Year 6 pupils who are working towards
achieving the national expected swimming standard by the end of Key Stage 2, will attend lessons this year. If you are a Year 6 parent receiving this letter, your child has been allocated a place.
Year 6 pupils who have already achieved the required standard will remain in school for a PE
lesson.
• Due to restrictions on the number of children permitted in the pool at one time, sessions will be organised as follows:
o 9th, 16th and 23rd September – Year 6 swimmers, all Year 5 pupils and Year 4 Group 1
o 7th, 14th and 21st October – Year 6 swimmers, all Year 5 pupils and Year 4 Group 2
• Children will travel to and from the leisure centre by coach each week. We are delighted that FOLS has once again generously agreed to fund the transport costs. This is a significant contribution, and we are extremely grateful for their continued support. The school will cover the costs of pool hire and swimming instruction, meaning there will be no charge to parents.
• Swimming lessons will take place every Wednesday morning, with our allocated pool session
running from 11:00am–12:00pm. We will leave school promptly at 10:25am. Children should come to school with their swimming kit, including:
o Swimsuit/swim shorts
o Swim cap
o Goggles (if worn)
o Towel
These items should be brought in a separate, waterproof swim bag and left on their peg until departure. A qualified lifeguard and school staff will supervise the children throughout each session.
If your child is unable to swim on a particular day, please inform the school by email, ideally the day before the lesson. Children who are not swimming should still attend school as normal.
