Whatever Next!
Our Nursery and Reception children have been acting out the story of ‘Whatever Next!’ by Jill Murphy. We have been using the photographs to sequence and retell the story. We have also added speech bubbles and captions.

Designing and Making a model Greek Temple
This week Scafell Class have started their designs to build a model Greek Temple. We started with some research about the features of Greek temples before trying to come up with some ideas about how to create their models in small groups. Lots of thinking, collaboration, problem solving, maths and measuring. Some children created prototypes out of Lego as part of their planning too. Watch this space; we will let you know how we get on soon….
Hama Bead Club
Well done to Amelia, Robyn and Abigail who led the first lunchtime club today. They have organised the club completely independently by: writing to the parents; collecting the reply slips; organising and taking a register; and interacting with and supporting our club-goers to create some wonderful designs.
Skiddaw Science
It is only day two of the new term but we’re already getting into learning all about our digestive system in all its wonderful glory! Did you know that the small intestine is a tube about 6m long all coiled up inside you? Well we do now! Take a look at the grins on our faces as we got messy exploring the journey our food takes from beginning to end.
Christmas Musical Extravaganza
We had a display of impressive musical talent today. We had solo and group performances from piano, violin and guitar in a varied repertoire with a Christmassy feel, including more than one rendition of Jingle Bells. Parents and pupils enjoyed the effort, practice and skills on show. Thanks must go to the individual music teachers – Mrs Rainbow, Mrs Hurley and Mr Duesbury.
Learning about the Greek Cross
This week Scafell have been exploring the symbolism in the Greek Cross. Unlike other Christian crosses, all four sections of the cross are equal in length and represent God’s love reaching across the world. At the end of each section there is often a trefoil representing the trinity of God the father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We were also interested to discover that this type of cross is a symbol of the church, rather than a reminder of Jesus’ suffering on the cross.
Our lesson started with four tricky jigsaw pieces to arrange into a symmetrical dodecagon. We needed further clues to make the Greek Cross before finding information independently and creating our own designs based on our research.
Games Day!
We have had a great day today playing new and old classic board games. There was lots of super turn taking, sharing and good sportsmanship on view as we enjoyed Monopoly, Dog Bingo, the Tumbling Monkey game, Connect 4, cards and chess. Which is your favourite Christmas game?
