Writing inspired by the Ancient Greeks
Scafell Class have spent this half-term creating and writing their very own Greek myths. After looking at a number of Greek myths together, they started to plan and build each stage of their own tale to create a wonderful book with an imaginative front cover and blurb. They began by creating their own multi-animalistic mythical monster, followed by a strong brave hero, who travelled through a challenging setting, to take on their monster in an exciting fight scene.
They have also taken on the roles of reporters this week, to create their very own Greek newspaper based on the myth Pandora’s box. Some children did some hot seating in order to include some relevant and convincing quotes for our newspaper reports.
Well done everyone in Scafell Class – you have made incredible progress in your writing this term!
Our Nativity – Refuge
Our nativity this year has been inspired by a beautiful book called Refuge by Anne Booth and Sam Usher. Y2 really enjoyed reading it and have retold the story to create the script for our nativity play. Here are a few photos from our first night – thanks to Aggie Dobson for these beautiful shots.
We’re going to be on the radio!
On Wednesday 7th December, Yakkers recorded the whole school saying and singing our nativity play, Refuge. We are the chosen school for their 7.50am slot on Lakeland Radio every day next week. We hope you will be listening out for us – you’ll have to be up early!

Toddler Taster Festive Craft
We welcomed our Pre-School children into school today. We had glue, glitter and icing to get us in the Christmas mood.
The children made cards, decorations and even a melted snowman biscuit!
The Snowman and the Snowdog
The Reception children had another fantastic opportunity to visit Bleaswood School again today. We joined in with a sensory retelling of the The Snowman and the Snowdog. The children wore hats, used puppets and even went ‘flying in the air’!
Tag Rugby Tournament
In the lovely autumnal sunshine, Year 3 and 4 played great games of tag rugby against other local schools. All our recent training, drills and mini games paid off and we certainly improved during the afternoon. Great to have a few family members popping in to cheer us along too. We took two teams and came 3rd and 5th out of 13 teams and there were lots of smiles, cheers and good sportsmanship on show.

Pupil Parliament
The Levens Pupil Parliament Team of Olly, Rosie, Alfie and Amelia travelled to Storth Primary School on 28th November, at the invitation of Storth School Council, to meet with Tim Farron and participate in a question and answer session. Our team were keen to know, what Mr Farron intended to do about Village speeding, what MP’s did when they lost their seats in Parliament, if Mr Farron found it difficult to do what constituents wanted if he didn’t agree with what they were wanting and why politicians didn’t always deliver on their promises. Tim took it all in his stride, responding with sincerity and humour that kept his entire audience engaged and amused. Our team were mature, confident speakers and brilliant ambassadors – a joy to accompany in fact!
Children in Need Total
A big thank you to everyone who donated to such a fantastic charity. As a school we raised a brilliant £225, which is the highest ever amount for Levens School. Well Done!!!
